Tears
Movies have the power to stir many emotions in us. Some make you angry, some make you cheer, others leave you laughing and happy. Then there are those movies, that touch us deeply and bring a tear to our eyes. While some of these tears are happy tears, others are caused by those touching moments of love, or simply due to a sense of loss that we can all relate too. Here are 15 movies, that stir the emotions and make tears well up and oftentimes overflow.
- 1. Bambi – Ironically enough this children’s cartoon has a more profound effect on parents than on children. The sacrifice of Bambi’s mother in the first half of the movie can easily be felt by every parent who watches this movie with their child.
- 2. Old Yeller – Anyone who has ever loved a pet, can identify with Yellers love for the boy and can feel the sorrow, when Yeller contacts rabbis and has to be put down. Your heart breaks for poor Travis who loses his best friend, and that special friend you have lost or will lose one day.
- 3. Marley and Me – is another dog movie that will leave pet owners weeping, as we watch the dog in this movie go through life and are there in his final moments.
- 4. The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas – This WWII movie about the son of a German officer who runs a death camp and a boy in the camp is both poignant and sad. While it is difficult to like the father in this movie you can’t help but feel his loss when his son, is accidentally sent to the gas chamber.
- 5. Sophie’s Choice – Another WWII movie, and a mother forced to make a decision that no mother should ever have to make.
- 6. Kramer vs. Kramer – More than once you will feel for the dad in this movie as he learns how to parent his son on his own, who has been abandoned by the mother, only to watch his desperate fight to keep his son, when his ex-wife returns and decides she wants her son back. In the end you feel both joyous and sad when the mother changes her mind again, knowing that the child will remain with the father who loves, but has been rejected a second time by his mother.
- 7. Losing Isaiah – It would be difficult not to weep at this story about two mothers who both love the same child, and the sacrifice one of them has to make putting her child’s happiness above her won.
- 8. Pay it Forward – When a boy takes a school project more seriously than the teacher intended, he changes the life of his family and his community only to lose his own by standing up for what he believes is right.
- 9. The Notebook – The Notebook is a very different type of love story, that will leave you feeling the strength and endurance of love through every hardship while, feeling the loss we all feel as we get older and see those we love slipping away from us.
- 10. The Green Mile – Convicted of killing two young girls an innocent black man sits on death row helping those around him with his special power to heal only to be unable to save himself in the end.
- 11. The Bucket List – Both funny and sad this story of two men who have cancer and decide to complete their bucket list before they die is one movie worth seeing again and again.
- 12. Armageddon – This Scifi adventure movie has it’s comedic moments and also an extremely sad ending as Bruce Willis gives up his life to save the world and his daughters future and fiance.
- 13. Stepmom – Who could not feel tears when a dying mother forms a friendship with the woman who will replace her in her children’s lives. It is a story of love, compassion, and loss.
- 14. Selena – This is the heartbreaking true story of a young Latin singer who rises to stardom only to be killed by someone she once considered a friend.
- 15. The Dead Poet’s Society – In perhaps Robin Williams best role ever this is a story about teacher who encourages his students to think outside of the box and to explore life, only to have his career ended by a school and a man of power, who feels that tradition, and obedience is more important that happiness and fulfillment.
